Wednesday work

I got up at 5.50, put on a load of washing and had buttered toast and tea for breakfast. I packed my lunch, dressed, made the bed and then relaxed with my book till it was time for me to leave for work. I had to go straight to the greenhouse and pick all the ripe tomatoes 🍅. It was the best harvest this year so far. I got 9 and a bit boxes. It wasn’t too bad in there because the sun wasn’t out. When I had finished picking them the boss wanted me to tie all the tops onto the wire, it was dreadful! I couldn’t reach and had to clamber up onto a box every time. There are about 500 plants. Well I did just over half and the boss came in to see how I was getting on and I told him it was killing me because even with my box I struggled to reach so he took over and sent me weeding. Andy got me to help him get a few bunches of beetroot and then I ended up back on the weeding till home time. When I got home H made me a coffee and I had a slice of corned beef. H spoke to the doctor this morning about his dizziness and he had an appointment for this afternoon to have his ears checked. He has a prescription for some more pills but different to the last ones. When he got back we had a cup of tea and watched a cycle race on tv, then tipping point. I had a bath and cooked dinner. We had spaghetti bolognese. Much to my surprise I have to work again tomorrow.

Tuesday

I got up at 6.15, put on a load of washing and had toast and tea for breakfast. I hung out the washing when it was done and watered the tomatoes. We had a coffee and then I made the bed, watered the orchid’s and we got the bikes out of the garage. At 9 o’clock we got ready and went out on our bikes. It was rather windy and was getting stronger as the morning went on. Unfortunately it was head wind all the way home. We went to Reepham along the track then to Hayden, Briston, Wood Dalling, back to Reepham and home along the track where we were out of the wind a bit. It was 35.6 miles. When we got home we put our bikes away and I made H a cheese and beetroot sandwich while I had a salad. We watched tele this afternoon and I got the washing in all nice and dry. I had a shower and then cooked dinner. We had salmon with jacket potatoes, mushrooms and fried onions. I have just seen a lovely rainbow 🌈 each stripe was really wide. Tomorrow I have to work.

Monday.

I got up just before 6 and had my breakfast I hung out yesterday’s washing and packed my lunch. I made the bed, dressed sorted my bag and went to work. When I arrived the boss said there wasn’t much wanted and Andy could manage to get it on his own, Andrew was sent out gardening right away and I had to spend my whole 5 hours weeding! The time sure did drag! When I got home H made me a coffee and put my sun lounger on the lawn so I put my shorts on and sat in the garden for an hour. I watered the tomato plants, had a bath and got dinner. We had liver and garden peas and home made potato cakes. They were nice, mashed potato with salt and black pepper an egg beaten in, formed into cakes . Rolled in flour and grated cheese and then fried in olive oil. I don’t have to work till Wednesday and I hope it’s a bit more busy then.

Sunday

I got up at 6 and it was raining. I put on a load of washing, made a bowl of porridge for breakfast and had it with a cup of tea. Next I made a loaf of bread. H went up to turbo and I emptied the dishwasher and put everything away. I did a bit of housework and as it was cooler I did the ironing. I then sat and wrote a letter to my friend. H stopped when he had done 70k. We had a coffee and I spent a little while in the garden. We watched tv for most of the afternoon, I had a bath and cooked dinner. We had chicken with potatoes, carrots, onions and broad beans. It’s been a really boring day and I have been eating for England! All I could think about was food. I have to work tomorrow so I hope to get back on to the straight and narrow!

Saturday

I got up at 5.30 because I had just laid there all night, far too hot to sleep. I had a bowl of porridge and a cup of tea. Later H made coffee. We were going out with our daughter and son in law but it was so dull and miserable we decided not to go. It’s lucky we did because at the time we were supposed to meeting them it was raining. H said he didn’t feel very well and we wondered if he is coming down with what ever it was I had. I think it’s because we are both so tired. We had a tea cake for lunch and later another coffee. We watched the tour of France which was a shortened version because their weather was so bad. I watered the tomatoes because they were still dry even after all the rain. I had a shower and watched tipping point and the chase. I cooked dinner which was fried  potatoes, tomatoes,  grilled mushrooms and courgette, sausages and eggs.    Today is the laziest day I have had for months so tomorrow I will have to make up for it.

Friday

All day I have been thinking it’s Saturday! I put on a load of washing and had my breakfast. As soon as I had done I dressed etc ready to go shopping. We went to Asda first and it was chaos. None of the meat shelves were open and nothing to explain why. I assume it’s was something to do with the thunderstorms and power cuts we in the area suffered. From there we went to B&Q so H could get some grout and lump wood charcoal. When we got home we had a coffee and I read my magazine. Next we got ready to go out on our bikes. We went to Reepham station and had a coffee and then biked home again. As soon as we got back I hung out the washing. We had lunch, a toasted tea cake and watched the Tour de France. It was lovely riding along the track under the tree canopy, the coolest I have been all week. I was stung several times because the nettles have got very tall and now they are all falling over. I had a nice cool shower and cooked dinner, we had lamb shanks with broard beans,  carrots, broccoli and potatoes all in a lovely rich gravy. Strawberries and cream for dessert. We hope it’s dry tomorrow because we want to go out on our bikes again.

Thursday.

I got up at 5. 30, put on a load of washing and had my breakfast. I watered the pots, packed my lunch, made the bed, dressed, hung out the washing and went to work. My first job was picking the tomatoes. It was hot in the greenhouse but they didn’t take me long to do and I was picking radishes by 9.30. I had to do 21 bunches. Next I joined the men on carrots 🥕 when they were done (8 dozen) the men went for their break and I sat in the field and had mine. I began to pick broad beans and the men joined me. We did 10 boxes and then 10 boxes of rhubarb. After that we picked 54 bunches of spring onions, 18 bunches of golden beetroot and 6 boxes of purple beetroot. It was 1 o’clock then and time for me to go home. I don’t have to work again till Monday. When I got home H made me a coffee. It was so hot outside we both just stayed indoors. Now it’s hot inside too! We had a bbq 🍗 this evening, steak 🥩 burger 🍔 and chicken with salad. The tomatoes were out of our garden and very nice. I don’t think I will be able to sleep tonight! I washed my hair and I have left it wet hanging down my back, it’s lovely and cool.

Wednesday, 24 July 2019

Wednesday.

I got up at 5.50 and put on a load of washing. I had cream crackers and cheese for breakfast with a cup of tea and a coffee. I hung out the washing when it was done and watered the tomatoes. Today we decided to try out the new roof rack that H bought. It’s 3 big suction cups, 2 for the front of the bike and 1 for the back. We put my bike in the boot and Hs on the rack. We then drove to Holkham and when we arrived the bike was still on the car so the rack worked. It’s quick and easy to use and we just took it off and put it in the boot while we went for a ride. Even at the coast it was unbelievably hot (32 degrees at 10 .30 am) . We left our car and cycled to the coastal path then we went , first to Wells next the sea where we had fish and chips sitting on the wall in the sun and then an ice cream. After that we found the coastal again and carried on. Unfortunately I really didn’t feel well, we rode got about 6 miles and I had drunk all my water plus a can of orange with my chips. I sat in the hay for a while and plucked up courage to tell H I wanted to go back. He didn’t mind, I think he was too hot as well. We went back to Holkham Hall where we had a coffee before driving home again. I told H I will try the path again one day when it’s cooler and we will go further but it’s hard work on the track and I am worn out. I think it’s because I am still not 100% . When we got home we had a bath and a cup of tea. I got my washing in and ate a tomato from the garden.

Tuesday, 23 July 2019

Tuesday.

I got up at 5.20 because I woke up and it was too hot to get back to sleep again! I put on a load of washing and had a slice of toast for breakfast. I watered all my outdoor pots etc and packed my lunch.  I sat and read for a little while and when it was time I dressed packed my lunch and went to work. We began planting straight away and finished at 11.30. It was very hot on the back of the planter! When we had finished Andrew went off on a gardening job and Andy and I picked 62 bunches of beetroot. At 12.30 we went down to the yard to wash and pack them, then we put them in the cold store so they are nice and fresh for tomorrow. When I got home H made me a coffee and I had a tea cake for lunch.  It was too hot to sit in the garden (32degrees) so we stayed indoors and watched the Tour de France. When it was over we watched tipping point and I had a shower. For dinner tonight we had meatballs in a tomato sauce and spaghetti. I have to work again on Thursday and the boss said my first job will be picking the tomatoes in the greenhouse! I hope it’s not as hot as today because it wii be awful in there but the forecast isn’t looking very promising.

Monday, 22 July 2019

Monday.

I got up at 5.40 and had a slice of toast for breakfast with a cup of tea. I packed my lunch, made the bed, watered  the tomatoes etc. and then I just sat and relaxed till it was time for me to go to work. There wasn’t much for me to do! I had to pick 20 bunches of beetroot and 25 bunches of radishes. After that I had to twiddle runner beans round their canes and pull out the weeds in the rows. I finished it all by 12.10 and the boss told me if I finished it before home time to find myself something to do! I then weeded a bed of sweet corn and started on 4 rows of fennel. I had a coffee when I got home and H and I sat in the garden for a little while but it was just too hot. (31 degrees) We sat indoors in the shade. We had a glass of wine and a cup of tea. I had a nice cool bath and cooked dinner, we had jacket potatoes, mushrooms and onions and fish cakes.  I have to water the tomatoes again this evening but I will do it when the sun had gone down. I have to work again tomorrow, we are planting the winter cabbages. It will be dreadful sitting on the back of the planter it this heat!

Sunday, 21 July 2019

Sunday

I got up at 6 and put on a load of washing. I had fried courgette and an egg for breakfast and so far my rash hasn’t appeared so I may be able to eat eggs again which would be a bonus. Today I feel fine, I have a nasty cough but I expect I will have it for weeks! I never can get rid of them! We had a coffee and H went upstairs to turbo. I thought it would be a good idea to get stuck into the housework while he was out of the way. I dressed, hung out the washing and then vacuumed upstairs, the stairs and all downstairs. Next I dusted all the way through. I swept and washed the kitchen and toilet floors, wiped all the worktops and the cupboard doors etc. It all took me ages but it all looks nice. I had just finished when half the family arrived which was a lovely surprise. We all sat in the garden, had a drink and heard all about their holiday. For lunch  H had 2 poached eggs on toast but I had corned beef, I didn’t want to push my luck. This afternoon I worked in the garden and each time the sun came out I sat down. I went in to watch the last 50 k of the ‘tour’ then I had a shower and cooked dinner. We had a steak pie with broad beans, potato wedges and roast onions. H had yogurt with maple syrup and I had a banana and a peach. I have to work tomorrow, it’s been a short weekend but it’s been nice.

Saturday, 20 July 2019

Saturday

Because I worked yesterday and we always shop on Fridays we had to do it today instead. The trouble with that is, all day long we both keep thinking it’s Friday! I did a load of washing before we left and when we got home I unpacked and put everything away while H made the coffee. When I had drunk mine and read my magazine I walked, first to Chloe’s to check the garden and take her milk bottles back, we must have more rain in the night than I thought because the garden was fine and I didn’t need to water. From there I walked to the chemist for my prescription and home again. When  I got home the sun was out so I put our sun loungers out so they would dry, hung out my washing and went upstairs to put my shorts on. I went back downstairs to lay in the garden an it began to rain! By the time I got the washing in I was soaked, it poured. The chairs got wet again so I have left them out. H rode 62 miles on the turbo! When he finished we had another coffee and a slice of cake. I put my radio on this afternoon at 2 so I could hear the Archers! I thought it was Friday again, it’s not on on Saturdays. We watched the Tour de France and tipping point, I had a shower and cooked dinner. I’ve done a few bits of housework today but as I am still not feeling well, mostly I sat about reading. Tomorrow I will get stuck in and clean up. Our family come home from Spain tonight so we are looking forward to seeing them all soon ( as soon as I am nor contagious)

Thursday, 18 July 2019

Thursday.

I got up just before 6 and put on a load of washing. I had toast and butter with a mug of tea for breakfast and relaxed with my book till 7. Then I packed my lunch, cleaned my teeth, dressed, made the bed and watered the tomatoes before going to work. When I arrived I had to walk to the top of the field and pick 45 bunches of radishes. Andy then joined me and we picked 31 bunches of golden beetroot. We moved to the carrots and did 48 bunches before going back to the yard for our coffee break. As soon as we had finished we unloaded the trailer and went to the beetroot plot and picked 80 bunches of beetroot. We then went back to the carrots 🥕 for the rest of the morning and managed to do 144 more bunches before I went home. Yesterday evening I suddenly had a VERY sore throat, it was so bad that in the night I had a job to swallow. I have felt awful all day and now I am starting to cough. I don’t know anyone with a cold!  I haven’t had one for over 2 years! When I got home H made me a hot chocolate and I sat about for ages then I went outside and began to clear my garden path, I have done about a quarter of it. H ran me a bath and as I am not hungry we just had beans and eggs on toast followed by a toasted tea cake. I have to work again tomorrow! I haven’t worked on a Friday for over a year!

Wednesday, 17 July 2019

Wednesday.

No work today so H told me to have a lie in. I got up at 6, put on a load of washing and had my breakfast ( porridge and tea.) H finally came down at 7! He was the one to have a lie in. 😄 When my washing was done I hung it out, stripped the bed and put on a second load. We had a coffee and H put on a loaf of bread. I hung out the second load of washing and watered the tomatoes. H got the bikes out of the garage and we got ready to go for a ride. It was lovely, we cycled to Reepham station where H treated me to a bottle of pear drink and a fantastic cake, he had coffee and cake. It was actually gluten free which we aren’t but it looked so nice and it was delicious 😋. Coconut top with a chocolate base and studded with raisins and cherries. When we got home we had a coffee, H had a toasted tea cake and I had a slice of corned beef. ( our ride was just over 22miles and we did it in just under 2 hours). We cycled in sunshine all the way round and I was looking forward to sitting in the sun and trying to get my tan back but by the time I had a quick wash and put my shorts on the sun had gone in! ☹️. I still sat out there and it was lovely and warm but dull. We watched the Tour de France 🇫🇷 and tipping point then had a shower and I cooked dinner. We had pork chops, mushrooms, potato wedges, broad beans and eggs. Now I am going to watch my soaps, I hope I have better luck than last night when I kept falling asleep!

Tuesday, 16 July 2019

Tuesday.

I got up at 5.50, put on a load of washing and had toast for breakfast. I packed a sandwich for my lunch with cheese and lettuce, also a banana. When the washing was done I hung it out and watered the tomatoes and beans. I dressed, made the bed and got ready to go to work. We planted leeks, it took us from 8 o’clock to 2.30 to get them all done there were 44 boxes. We now have a huge field of leeks! I left off as soon as we were done and I was home by 3 o’clock. I had a coffee and got my washing in, all nice and dry. We had a cup of tea, watched tipping point and had a bath. It was a rest day in the tour today. I have to go to work again on Thursday.

Monday, 15 July 2019

Monday

I got up at 5.50 and made a pot of tea, toasted my bread and had my breakfast. I packed my lunch, sorted my bag , filled my water bottle, watered the tomatoes and beans and after I had cleaned my teeth I made the bed, dressed and went to work. Andy, Andrew and I had to all go together with a small list of veg to harvest. First we picked 30 bunches of beetroot then I had to do 25 bunches of radishes while the 2 men picked 2 boxes of broad beans. Next Andrew and I had to stay at the top of the field and begin to pull up leeks while Andy went back to the yard cutting a few lettuce on the way. He had to wash the radishes and beetroot , pack them and put everything in the van ready for the boss to deliver. He then rejoined us and we spent the rest of the morning pulling up the leeks  ready to plant tomorrow. When I left off at one we had 30 boxes and Andy was going to spend the afternoon pulling the rest up. Andrew left us at 12.20 so he could have his lunch and spend the afternoon gardening. When I got home I had a coffee and a slice of cake. We watched the Tour de France then tipping point, I had a bath and cooked dinner. We had salmon, jacket potatoes broad beans and carrots. It was very dull all morning at work and not very warm. I have to go again tomorrow to plant the leeks and I have been told to take plenty to eat because I could be there all day!

Sunday, 14 July 2019

Sunday.

I got up at 6.10and put on a load of washing. H was already up and has made the tea and had his breakfast. He was waiting to make a coffee so I said I would have my coffee first. After coffee I made my porridge and poured my tea. After breakfast I made the bed, dressed and hung out the washing. Next I did all my ironing before it got too hot indoors. I had loads because I haven’t done any for ages and I had piles of it. I watered the tomatoes and beans and then boiled the ingredients for a ‘ boiled cake’. I left it to cool while I walked to my friends house to water her garden. When I got back home I added the eggs, flour and spices to my cake mix and popped it in the oven. H finished his turbo ride so I made us a coffee and sat down for a few minutes to drink it. It’s been so cloudy and cool today that we were able to sit in the conservatory! For lunch we had mackerel in tomato sauce with a slice of bread and butter. I swept and washed the kitchen and toilet floors and vacuumed upstairs. We watched the Tour de France in the lounge and cricket in the kitchen! I had to keep going from one to the other. The cricket was amazing in the end it was so good I didn’t care who won but I am still pleased it was us! My cake turned out well , when it was cool I cut it up and we each tried a slice.

For dinner tonight we had roast chicken with roast potatoes and onions and with new potatoes, carrots and broccoli and of course gravy. I have had a nice weekend but it’s gone quickly and I have to work tomorrow.

Saturday, 13 July 2019

Saturday.

I got up at 5.20 to find H already downstairs with a pot of tea made and eating his porridge. I made my porridge and had my breakfast. We emptied the dishwasher and put everything away then we had a coffee. I watered my tomatoes and made the bed. We sat and watched a wildlife program on tv and H got our bikes out of the garage and wiped and oiled the chains. We decided to get ready to go out and try to get out by 9 o’clock. When we left it was raining a bit so we said if we get too wet we will turn round and come back home. We were quite sheltered on the track and by the time we got to the road in Reepham the rain had stopped. We then went on the road to Aylsham via Cawston and Blickling. At Aylsham station where we had a drink and shared a scone. We carried on along the track all the way to Wroxham station where we had an ice cream before the return journey. When we got back to Aylsham we took to the road and returned home. (47miles)  not bad for 2 O A Ps. When we got home we had a cup of tea and H lit the bbq ready to cook our meal. We had pork and apple burgers, sausages, chicken 🍗 drumsticks, corn on the cob and salad. We also had a glass of wine. We have had a really nice day and feel pleased with ourselves. There is not much I want to watch on tv this evening so I think I might struggle to keep awake.

Friday, 12 July 2019

Friday.

Got up at 5.20 , it was too hot to sleep. I put on a load of washing and read my book till I heard H moving about upstairs then I made a pot of tea. We both had toast for breakfast and then got ready to go to Asda. When we got home I unpacked and put everything away and we had a coffee and an apple puff. I read my magazine and hung out the washing. I did a bit of housework and went out to sit in the garden but the sun went in. We watched a bit of the Tour de France 🇫🇷 and at 12.45 we had our lunch. Cream crackers and cheese. We had another coffee. H had to go for a blood test this afternoon so while he was doing that I had a ride on the turbo trainer. I was far too hot and as soon as H got home I gave up. I did 15.7 miles av 18 mph. I am only going to ride upstairs in winter in future. When I had showered we had a glass of wine and watched the end of the tour then tipping point. I made a pot of tea and cooked dinner, we had spaghetti bolognese, strawberries and yogurt for pudding.

Thursday, 11 July 2019

Thursday.

I got up at 5.55 and put on a load of washing. I had toast for breakfast and packed my lunch. I read a chapter of my book before getting ready to go to work. We went planting straight away and it took us till 9.45. We planted 28 rows with around 500 in each row. I had to pick tomatoes till coffee break. I only got about half a box full and I went over nearly all of them. I think the boss thought there were a lot more ripe than there were. After break I had to go with Andy and we did 15 boxes of broad beans, 25 bunches of radishes, 50 bunches of spring onions and 48 bunches of carrots. It was time for me to go home then but we were supposed to have twice as many carrots as that and we were supposed to have 50 bunches of beetroot! It seems the more we do the more we are given.
When I got home H made me a coffee and I had one of my buns with it. We watched the Tour de France this afternoon and I had a shower and washed my hair. For dinner tonight we had pork chops, new potatoes, broad beans and carrots. I had an apple and a banana for my dessert. I don’t have to work again till Monday. I have had some nice photos from my family who are in Spain 🇪🇸, their weather is great and they are having fun in the pool.

Wednesday, 10 July 2019

Wednesday.

I got up at 5.40 and had a slice of toast with butter for breakfast with a mug of tea. I didn’t have enough washing to make up a load today, a very rare occasion. After breakfast I sat and read my book  till 6.50 then I cleaned my teeth, made the bed, dressed, packed my lunch and watered the tomatoes. I packed my bag and went to work. This morning H went to his Spanish lesson, he had to bike because I had the car 🚘. On his way home he went to the surgery to get an appointment (at last) to try to sort out his dizzy spells. He has a prescription for tablets to help with the sickness he sometimes with it and on Friday he is having a blood test.
When I got to work I had to go with Andy and we pulled up leek plants ready to plant tomorrow. We pulled up a quarter of the bed and we are pulling up the rest on Monday to plant on Tuesday. It took till 10. 20. I then had my break, Andy went down with the plants and I started on bunching carrots. I had done 27 bunches by the time he came back. He had a list of the things we needed, 96 bunches of carrots, 20 bunches of spring onions, 60 bunches of radishes and 70 bunches of beetroot. It was a mad rush, we had to fork all the carrots which was hard work, we were both boiling hot 🥵 and covered in midges. I finished work at 12 minutes past 1. When I got home H made me a coffee and I had a choc chip bun and a slice of corned beef. We watched the Tour de France, some of tipping point and I had a shower before cooking dinner. We had fish cakes, jacket potatoes and baked beans. I have to work again tomorrow.

Tuesday, 9 July 2019

Tuesday.

I got up at 5.40, put on a load of washing, made a pot of tea and a bowl of porridge and had my breakfast. I sat and read my book till H made me a coffee and when I had drunk it I went up and dressed so I could hang out the washing and water the tomatoes. Next I walked round the corner to a friends house to do a bit of watering for her as they are on holiday. As I opened their gate to the back garden a huge flock of birds flew out of the cherry tree, 2 magpies, a jackdaw, 2 blackbirds and several pigeons. After I had watered I was going to pick myself a few cherries but they are getting past their best so I left them for the birds. When I got back home H had taken the bikes out of the garage and had wiped the chains and oiled them ready for us to go out. So I had a banana and went up to put my cycle gear on. We biked along the track but H wasn’t really in the right mood and was crawling along. After we had done 8 miles we felt a spot or two of rain so we cut the ride short and came home again. I was quite pleased because I was fed up with going so slowly. He then said I should have passed him! But there was no point because I would have had to wait for him. This afternoon I spent an hour working in the garden while H slept in front of the tv which was showing the Tour de France. Tomorrow he is going down to the surgery to sort out an appointment with a doctor. We watched some of tipping point, had our baths and then dinner. We had duck legs with new potatoes, carrots, peas and sweet corn. Tomorrow I have to go to work.

Monday, 8 July 2019

Monday.

I got up at 5.50, put on a load of washing and then had a slice of toast for breakfast. I watered the tomato plants, hung out the washing, packed my lunch and got ready to go to work. When I got there the boss said he didn’t need anything much so I would be weeding all day. I was weeding parsnips. There were 36 rows plus 4 rows of carrots 🥕 that needed to be done. The rows were so long and when I stood at one end I could hardly see the other end. I did 4 rows at a time and it worked out at about 8 rows an hour. I had to have my break sitting on the floor, there wasn’t even a box for me to sit on ☹️. I finished it all by 12.25 so I had to walk to the runner beans and twist them up their canes. I just managed to get it done before home time. When I got home H made me a coffee and I had a slice of corned beef and a toasted tea cake. Next I made some choc chip buns and swept the kitchen floor. I got the washing in and watered the tomatoes again, my grow bag dries out really quickly. We watched the tour and tipping point. I had a bath and cooked dinner, we had chicken curry. I am now going to watch my soaps but I doubt I will be able to keep awake.

Sunday, 7 July 2019

Sunday.

I got up just before 6, put on a load of washing and made a bowl of porridge for breakfast. H was up and had made the tea so he poured me a cup. I had my breakfast and then a coffee. I went up and dressed, hung out the washing, watered the tomatoes and got my bike out of the garage. H went upstairs to turbo. I did a bit of housework and made the bed. I looked in on H and he said he didn’t think he would finish his 100 k ride . I changed and went out on my bike but I wasn’t really in the mood so I just rode to the crab house to buy my lunch and back again. (8.5miles) When I got home H had finished and was watching tv. He said he had only done 50 k. We had our lunch and H watched the Tour de France but I sat in the garden till it clouded over and then I did a bit of pruning in the shrubbery. We had a cup of tea and some cherries 🍒 and then a very strange Sunday dinner.H didn’t want a roast so we had potato wedges, mushrooms, peas, broad beans sausages and eggs. Tomorrow I have to go to work. But I think I only have to do two days this week.

Saturday, 6 July 2019

Saturday

I got up at 5.10 because it was so hot upstairs and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I put on a load of washing and made porridge for breakfast. I hung the washing out when it was done and watered the tomatoes. We had a coffee and then I emptied the dishwasher and put everything away before vacuuming the whole house. Then we decided to go out on our bikes for a short ride. We did 17.5 miles so it didn’t take long which was a good job because it began to rain. I had left my washing out and we were home just in time to get it in. It was all dry. We had a cup of coffee and a toasted tea cake for lunch with cherries 🍒 for pudding. We watched the first day of the ‘tour de France’, had a cup of tea, watched tipping point, had a bath and I got dinner. We had fish pie with broad beans and carrots. I sat and read my book till 9 because there was nothing I wanted to watch on tv but now I am going to watch Bridget Jones. Again.

Friday.

I got up at 5.35, put on a load of washing and made a pot of tea. I had toast for breakfast and we got ready to go to Asda. When I had finished our weekly shop we came straight home, unpacked and put everything away and had a coffee with a donut. I hung out the washing and read my magazine. I made the bed and H got our bikes out of the garage. We got ready and went out on our bikes. We started off on the track, then did some miles on the road and ended our ride back on the track. It was a lovely ride, 31 and a bit miles. H put on a loaf of bread before we left and it still had an hour to go when we got home. We had noodles and cherries for lunch with a coffee and I put my shorts on and sat in the garden but it was really too hot! When I went in I had a shower and washed my hair. For dinner tonight we had quiche with grilled tomatoes and mushrooms. It was strawberries and ice cream for pudding. After dinner I walked round to where our grandson and his partner live so they could show me what they wanted me to do while they are away on holiday. They gave me a huge bowl of cherries 🍒 from off their tree and they are delicious.

Thursday

I was in the middle of a dream when H came in and woke me up! I was sound asleep and it was 6 o’clock! By the time I got downstairs he had poured my tea and toasted my bread. After breakfast I packed my cheese, tomato and water, dressed, made the bed, watered my tomato plants and got ready to go to work. I had to go with Andy and first we had to pick 10 boxes of broad beans, that took till 9.05. Next we picked 10 bunches of golden beetroot and 50 bunches of purple beetroot. By then it was almost 10 am and time for Andy to go down for his coffee break but first we had to pick 6 bunches of spring onions for a customer. He then left but the boss he’d told me to take my break in the field! I sat on a box with my water and cheese etc after which I had to pick 35 bunches of radishes. By the time Andy came back I only had 4 bunches left to do. Next we did 132 bunches of carrots, it was hard because there are so many weeds and they all had to be forked up. We were supposed to also do 80 bunches of spring onions but we only managed to get 45 before it was time for me to go home and for Andy to have his lunch. He will have to get the rest by himself. When I got home H made me a coffee and I went outside to sit in the sun. It was really too hot so I didn’t stay out for long. We had a bbq for tea this evening which was nice because it meant that I only had to prepare a little salad and H did the rest. We had pork kebabs and sausages, he also did himself 2 bananas 🍌 over the heat but just the thought of a hot banana makes me feel sick! I had yogurt. Anyway it was all nice and I am full again. I don’t have to work till Monday so happy days.

Day off ( Wednesday)

I got up at 5 which sounds early but I fell asleep around 8.30!! I put on a load of washing and then just sat and read my book till H got up and then I made a pot of tea and a bowl of porridge and had my breakfast. I hung the washing out and we had a coffee. Today it was H’s Spanish lesson so while he went to that I went for a short ride on my own. I did 11.4 miles just so I had my exercise and closed the rings on my Apple Watch. When I got home I changed into my shorts and a bright yellow top. I got my sun lounger out and sat in the sun. The next minute my top was covered in tiny black beetles. They wouldn’t leave me alone! It’s the last time I wear  that top when the sun is shining. When H got home he just changed and we went off to Sheringham where we had fish and chips, a cup of tea and a coffee flavoured ice cream for lunch. Next we walked to the beach, the tide was out and I had a lovely paddle. The sea  is not at all cold. We walked back to the railway station and had a coffee, sitting in the sun before leaving and driving to Christie and James so I could have a cuddle with our great granddaughter. She is so tiny but she’s gorgeous. When we got home I made a pot of tea and we just had a yogurt for tea because we were still full after our lunch. Tomorrow I am back at work. My washing is dry again .

Tuesday.

I got up at 5.55, put on a load of washing and had my breakfast. I packed my usual snack, made the bed, dressed, watered the tomato plants, hung out the washing and got ready to go to work.
First we loaded all the plants on to the trailer and drove to the part of the field  where we were planting. We worked for 2 hours and then stopped for our break. We carried on and finished the planting at 11. After that I walked to the beetroot and picked 60 bunches. Andy joined me and we also picked 89 bunches of carrots before it was time for me to go home. I don’t have to go tomorrow so I hope I can sleep a bit longer. When I got home I had a coffee and a slice of flap jack. I am feeling quite tired and just read my book all afternoon. I got the washing in, watered the tomatoes again and H poured me a glass of champagne! We watched tipping point and had our baths. I cooked dinner, we had the rest of yesterday’s lag of lamb with potatoes, broccoli, carrots and broad beans with gravy. It tasted just as good today. We also had the rest of the rhubarb and cream. Now I am going to watch my soaps and hope that I can stay awake unlike last night when I missed everything.

Monday.

I got up at 5.50, put on a load of washing, made a pot of tea and a slice of toast and had my breakfast. I watered the tomato plants, hung out the washing and made the bed. Next I dressed, packed my lunch and got ready to go to work. Andrew was sent out mowing lawns till 10 am and Andy and I were sent to the field with a small list. First we picked a box of broad beans, then 30 bunches of beetroot, 24 bunches of carrots and then Andy had to cut 24 cos lettuce 🥬 while I picked 2 boxes of rhubarb. We took it all back to the yard and washed the carrots and beetroot, repacked it and the boss went off to deliver it. I had to go into the greenhouse next and take the shoots out of the tomato plants and twist them up their strings. Andy loaded the trailer with plants and called me at 10 for our coffee break. Andrew came back and we all went to the top of the field to plant. (I had done almost half the tomatoes.)  We planted till 12.30 and then I had to go back to the tomatoes and just managed to finish them before it was time for me to go home. On the way home I went to the local shop for strawberries and cream but they didn’t have any strawberries so I bought a pot of cream, came home and picked some rhubarb and we had that instead. I got my washing in (dry) watered the tomatoes again and put we the meat in the oven, it was a leg of lamb and I wanted to cook it slowly. With it we had broad beans, carrots, broccoli and roast potatoes. I was the only one had mint sauce with it, the others don’t know what they are missing, it makes the gravy really special. Our son is leaving this evening and I have to work again tomorrow.
