Wednesday

 Work again, I had to pick 35 bunches of beetroot and 5 bunches of golden beetroot. Then I moved to carrots and pulled 60 bunches of them and 6 bunches of purple ones. After that I spent the rest of the day picking and bunching Spring onions. When I got home I had a nice cup of tea, a bath and then cooked dinner. Pizza, potato wedges and grilled tomatoes, H painted a bedroom door today so now he has started on the landing. It will be nice to get it all done.

Tuesday

When I came downstairs this morning I put on my usual load of washing, made a pot of tea and had my breakfast. I packed cheese and cucumber sandwiches for my lunch, my bottle of water and went to work. I had to pick just 2 bunches of purple carrots for a customer and then go to Spring onions where I had to pick 155 bunches. They took so long to bunch and clean up I didn't finish them till 12.30. I had to spend the rest of the day weeding which is back breaking work and I had to soak in the bath when I got home so I was able to straighten up again. After that I cooked dinner, cod in batter, peas and chips. It was nice put not as good as the chippy. 

Bank holiday Monday

Another nice day for me! After a leisurely breakfast and a nice cup of coffee we got ready to go out on our bikes again. We thought the roads would be busy so we decided to use our mountain bikes along the track again. Well the world and his wife must have the same idea, it was so busy. I hope they all enjoyed it as much as we did. The track is in perfect condition and a joy to ride on. We did 23 and a bit miles. When we came back I made some salmon sandwiches for lunch and we had a slice of water melon. I worked for an hour or so in the garden and then came in to watch the vuelta before having a bath and getting dinner. We had chicken, new potatoes, broard beans, carrots and batter puddings. I have to work tomorrow and for the rest of the week I think. Our eldest Grandaughter  and her boyfriend have moved into their new house together today and we are so proud. We struggled to get our first house 56 years ago but today it is so much harder, so we'll done them.

Sunday

I have had another nice day. I did a load of washing and got it dry. I worked in the garden for a couple of hours and did a load of housework. I made H his favourite shortcakes and we had cheese and biscuits for lunch. We sat all afternoon watching the vuelta which was good. It was in an area of Spain that we have been to twice on our holidays. The mountain climbs are amazing. We had cottage pie for dinner!!( when I planed it and took the mince out of the freezer I thought it was Saturday ) Now we will have our roast tomorrow.

I forgot to say we had a M & S strawberry trifle for pudding, it was very nice.

Saturday

Today has been a lovely day for me. After breakfast we went to Asda to do our weekly shop and then on to B & Q for some bits and pieces that H wanted, I bought 2 packs of daffodil bulbs and 1 pack of ' black ' tulip bulbs. We then went to M & S for a meal deal. I got duck legs, garlic mushrooms and a strawberry trifle plus a bottle of white wine. When we got back home we had a coffee and then changed ready to go out along the track on our mountain bikes. It was a lovely ride and we went really well and were passed by nobody. When we arrived back we had a cheese and tomato sandwich washed down with a pint of cider followed by a large slice of pineapple. Later on we had a coffee and later still a glass of wine. We watched a cycle race, I washed my hair and then I cooked dinner. I am keeping the trifle for tomorrow because we have strawberries and cream tonight. H has been busy boxing in a corner of the dining room where we had masses of wires. He has made a lovely job of it.

Friday

When I got up I put on a load of washing, had my breakfast, packed my marmite sandwiches and my bottle of water and went to work. I had to go straight into the greenhouse to pick the tomatoes. There were thousands of ripe ones but about a third of them were split, still they all had to be pulled off and it took me until 12.40 and by that time I had just about melted. I then had my lunch and spent the last three quarters of an hour weeding. We had haddock, peas and chips for dinner tonight with stewed apple and cream for pudding. No more work till Tuesday but then it will be a busy week because one of the two men I work with is on holiday.

Thursday

It was a better temperature for working in today but my boss set me an impossable task. I picked 80 bunches of beetroot and then had to pack all the lettuces that Andy had cut. It was then 10.45 so I had my break and joined Andrew to bunch 160 onions. When he left with those it was 12.50 so I had my lunch and picked a further 75 bunches of onions. After that I was joined by Andy and we had to pick 72 bunches of carrots, which all had to be dug up because thr ground has become so hard they won't pull out. We also had to pick a 12 kilo box of loose ones and 16 bunches of purple carrots. After that we had to pick 12 bunches of golden beetroot and finally another 50 beetroot. The boss also said any time I had left I could begin picking the tomatoes!!! Well I only managed 30 of the 50 beetroot and it was time for me to to leave off. I really had had enough. When I got home I had a nice cup of tea, a soak in the bath and dinner. ( COD in parsley sauce, a jacket potato and baked beans.) thank goodness tomorrow is a short day and then it's a 3 day break.

Wednesday

Well the weather forecast was right, it was a very hot day at work. I was bunching Spring onions almost all day, the only other things I did was, 40 bunches of carrots and 6 bunches of golden beetroot   

I drank 2 large bottles of water and I was still thirsty. Then at the end of the day my boss came up to see how we were doing and told me we are far more busy this week than he thought we would be so now I have to work Friday as well as tomorrow! I had a nice cool shower as soon as I got home and then cooked dinner. We had sausages, bacon, eggs, potatoes, runner beans and carrots. I will have to pick the tomatoes tomorrow or Friday, I think I will be too busy tomorrow to do it which is a pity because it will be the coolest day of the 2. I know I have to do them because I am the only one of us all who can stand the heat.

Tues

Today we were going out on our bikes but H wasn't keen to go, he wanted to put the finishing touches to some of his decorating. I was a bit fed up because I really wanted to go for a ride. Well, as it happens it all turned out for the best because I decided to just cycle to the Docs to pop in my repeat prescription. It's downhill all the way there, so of course it's uphill all the way back. By the time I got home my knee was so painful and twice its normal size. I have spent most of the rest of the sitting with it propped up and wrapped in a bag of frozen peas. So there is no way I could have done a normal ride. We had a corned beef sandwich for lunch and cod, potatoes, runner beans and carrots for dinner.  It's work for me tomorrow which won't be nice in this heat, I hope I don't have to work in the glasshouse, I will melt!

Monday

I didn't blog yesterday because I had nothing worth blogging about. I did all my ironing and made some shortcakes, I spent a little while in the garden clearing up some of the wind damage and spent the rest of the day watching cycling on t v. Today at work was a bit boring, the same old carrots, beetroot and Spring onions. All this was done by 11 am and I had to spend all the rest of the day weeding a bed of cauliflowers. It's back breaking work and I struggled to straighten up when I left off at 4. I feel a bit better now after a nice long soak in the bath but I am glad I don't have to go tomorrow. Dinner was nice, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, courgette's and chips. 

Saturday

I have thought it's Friday all day! We went shopping straight after breakfast as we always do on a Friday and it's been like one all the rest of the day. We went out on our bikes along the track with our daughter and son in law, it was much too windy to ride on the road. We had a lovely ride and all really enjoyed it. When we got back it was lunch time so we had a cheese and cucumber sandwich with a cup of coffee. This afternoon we watched women's triathlon with a nice glass of wine, for dinner we had quiche and chips followed by strawberries and cream. Here is a photo of H, me and in the background our daughter, it was taken by out son in law. I was trying to take a picture of a beautiful dragonfly but it was rubbish so I deleted it. We also saw a tree that had come down in the wind across the track, I should have taken a photo of that.

Friday

I went to work for the third day in a row, I had to pick 45 bunches of radishes, 4 boxes of runner beans, do a bit of weeding and then pick some more tomatoes. When I got home H had painted the banisters and the stairs look great. Our daughter rang and we have arranged to go for a bike ride with her and James this weekend if it's not too wet and windy. We had a steak and onion pie for our evening meal with runner beans and potatoes. You can see by my photos that the rows of beans are quite long the beans are good and there are plenty more to come as you can tell by all thr flowers.

Thursday

It was a busy day at work. First 100 bunches of beetroot, which means I picked well over 500 beetroot. Then 30 bunches of golden beetroot. After that I moved on to carrots and picked 120 bunches of orange ones and 20 bunches of purple ones. That just left 80 bunches of Spring onions for me to do. The ground has got so hard now through lack of rain I was unable to just pull up the onions and had to fork them all, I really struggled to get the fork into the ground it's like concrete. By the time I had finished all this I only had time to weed for around 20 minuites. We had cod in butter sauce for dinner with runner beans, carrots and new potatoes. I have to go to work again tomorrow but I only have to work till 2 pm.

Wednesday

After eating my breakfast and hanging my washing out ect. I went to work. I had to pick the rest of the tomatoes which took just over an hour and then I had to pull and bunch Spring onions, we needed 280 bunches so they took the rest of the day. I just had time to pick 2 bunches of radish and 6 bunches of golden beetroot on my way back to my car. It was horrible on the onions because they are growing next to a hedge so there was not a breath of wind and I was so hot. My shirt must have ridden up my back so I have a smilie shaped burn around my waist and I ran out of water. We had chicken rice and peas for dinner. I have to work again tomorrow.

Day off

I did a load of washing which I got dry, made H some shortcakes and got ready to go out on my bike with him. My left knee is about twice its normal size so we only had a nice steady ride. It wasn't at all painfull unless I put too much pressure on it ( like going uphill too fast. ) we had a cheese sandwich for lunch and for dinner this evening we had liver and bacon with potatoes, beans and mushrooms. It was nice. I have to work for the rest of the week so I am glad I managed to get out on my bike today. I spent a couple of hours in the garden this afternoon and my brown bin is nice and full for the bin men on Friday.

Monday

I was busy at work so the day passed quickly. I had to pick 20 bunches of beetroot, 25 bunches of radishes, 48 bunches of carrots and then help the men on Spring onions. When we had got 120 bunches we went to the leeks and trimmed a box each before going for our coffee break. It was then 11 pm and I went into the greenhouse to pick the tomatoes. I picked 10 boxes full which took until 2 pm but I still haven't finished them but it had got far too hot in there. I was weeding for the last 2 hours.  We had new potatoes, peas, eggs and bacon for tea tonight. I hope to go out on my bike tomorrow but at the moment I have a sore knee. 

Sun

I forgot to say this weekend I am queen of the cribbage board!!! 

Sunday

It's dull again but nice and warm and very little wind. I did a load of washing and a load of dishes, hung the washing out and had a slice of toast and butter with a mug of tea for my breakfast. Then, after a coffee no 2 son and I got changed into cycle gear and rode on our mountain bikes along the track to Reepham station where we had a drink and and a plate of cheese straws. We rode back home and stopped at a bridge to take a couple of photos. 

When we came back we had lunch ( salad ) and son went off to the climbing centre. He says he will be back around 6.30 for an early dinner because he has to drive back to London tonight. We are having roast pork, roast and boiled potatoes, runner beans, carrots, and batter puddings.

Saturday

Today was quite disappointing weather wise, it has been nice and warm but pretty cloudy. After I had eaten my breakfast and hung out the washing we had a coffee before I swept and washed the kitchen floor and washed all the cupboard doors, hob and worktop's. Then I did the same in the downstairs loo. We had a huge salad for lunch and our son went for a haircut and I sat in the garden till it was time to sort out dinner. We had my butchers pork and apple burgers and some of his sausages, they are both yummy. With them we had sweet potato wedges, carrots, runner beans and new potatoes. We had melon for pud and a bottle of wine.

Friday

Today has been a funny day. I woke up really depressed and any body who knows me will know that is most unusual. It's all because I am not doing Christmas at my house. Last year it made my back so bad I was in agony for over 3 weeks. The trouble is I love Christmas and I love having all my family round me. Well H and our son tried to cheer me up and we went out on our bikes, I felt better after the excersize and when we got back I had a shower,lunch and went to our daughters. Their little puppy is lovely and has settled in so well. She already sits when told to and she is so playful. H is not a great fan of dogs but he is so impressed with little Macy. Our son went to the climbing centre after going to see the puppy and when he got back we had dinner. It was yummy. Steak from our butchers in a B B Q sauce, sweet potato chips, both orange and purple carrots and runner beans. We had strawberries for pud and a nice glass of red. I wish my steak could be that good every time it melted in my mouth.

Thursday

Work was good again, it was raining when I arrived but I had to pick all the tomatoes in the glasshouse so I was in the dry. It took till 11 o'clock and then I had to pick 22 bunches of radishes, 50 bunches of Spring onions, 48 bunches of carrots and then 12 bunches of our new purple carrots. After that I had to pick 14 bunches of beetroot and 12 bunches of our new golden beetroot. They looked nice when they had been washed, they are the colour of a nice sunset but I don't know what they will taste like as I haven't trier any yet. When I got home I had a nice mug of tea and my daughter rang, I hope to go to see her tomorrow and see how the puppy is growing. No 2 son is coming home tonight so we are looking forward to seeing him.

Wednesday

I had a very busy day. I was sent to the top of the field with Andy which meant I got a lift. We worked together for most of the day but Andy had to go off with some of the things we picked to wash them while I carried on. We did 320 bunches of Spring onions, 40 bunches of beetroot, 86 bunches of carrots, 30 bunches of radishes  and 3 boxes of leeks. Any time I had left I was supposed to help wash things and then pick tomatoes but when we finished the leeks it was 4 o'clock and time for me to go home. I was worn out when I got home and struggled to get up the stairs for a soak in the bath. We just had eggs for tea and I also had a banana. I have to work again tomorrow and I am picking the tomatoes first so I hope it isn't too warm.

Tuesday

It was cooler today and still quite breezy so we decided we would use the track again. After a leisurely breakfast and then a coffee I hung out the washing and, as it was cooler I did all my ironing. I picked our beans and we got ready to go to the bank on our mountain bikes.  We just pootled along stopping to look at the river etc. and then on to Aylsham bank. By the time we were about to leave again H said he was hungry so he went into the cake shop and bought a Devon split. He asked if I wanted one but I resisted !  I am trying to loose weight! What would be the point of cycling 32 miles and then stuffing cream buns? ( I really wanted one ) . We had salad for lunch and for dinner this evening we are having salmon with a jacket potato. Work again tomorrow. 

Monday

Today was a nice temperature for working in the field. I had to pick 20 bunches of beetroot and 160 bunches of Spring onions but I had Andrew to help with them. We had them all done before 10 am so I had my coffee break and went weeding. When Andrew came back he had several trays of lettuce on his trailer and I had to go with him to plant them. I planted well over 1.000 lettuce plants and then I went back onto the weeding for the rest of the day. Yet another road that I use to get to work has closed until further notice so it's getting harder all the time to get there. I don't have to go again till Wednesday so we hope to go out on our bikes tomorrow. We had pork chops for dinner with veg and I am stuffed.

Sunday

No blog yesterday, in the morning I went for a mountain bike ride with my daughter which was really nice. We went along the track to Reepham station cafe and back again. The weather was perfect and the sky was such a beautiful blue. When I got back H still wasn't home but turned up soon after, he had also been for a ride, he went with our son in law. They rode 86 miles, ( we rode 20 ). We had a shower and our lunch before getting ready to go to my middle brother and sister in laws in Thorpe for a meal. We had a lovely afternoon and evening and the time went so quickly.

Today was spent washing and gardening and also watching the women's Olympic cycle race. It was a good race but at the end there was a dreadful crash which spoilt it. We had a turkey and ham pie with veg. for dinner tonight. It's work again for me tomorrow 

Friday

I have had a lovely lazy day. I did a load of washing, had my breakfast and we went shopping. H ran out of paint yesterday so we bought another giant tub so he can carry on. I hung out the washing when we came back and got it all dry. I made H some rock buns, did a bit of dusting and then spent several hours working in the garden. For dinner this evening I made a shepherds pie which was delicious. We had strawberries and cream for pudding. Our daughters puppy seems to be doing well, it really is so tiny, I have seen bigger Guinea pigs and makes their rabbit look huge.

Thursday

I was nice and busy at work again. I had to pick 90 bunches of beetroot first, then 6 bunches of radishes, 20 bunches of onions and 96 bunches of carrots. I was weeding after that and managed to get a nice patch done. We had a chicken curry for dinner which was nice. Tomorrow is the start of the Olympic's in Rio, I expect we will be watching quite a bit of it. I don't have to go to work anymore till Monday which is nice, it makes the weekend last longer.

Wednesday

It was 60 bunches of carrots first then 200 bunches of onions. I was about to go weeding when another order came up for 50 more bunches of onions and then 12 more bunches of carrots. My weeding was-cancelled because I had to go and pick the tomatoes again. After that I only had half an hour to weed. When I got home I had a cup of tea and a bath before getting dinner. We had sausages, potatoes, runner beans and carrots. As soon as we were finished we got ready and went round to our daughters to see their new puppy. It's so cute, a French bulldog. ........ 

Day off

Today started off wet so I haven't got my washing dry and I couldn't go out on my bike. H rubbed down some paintwork and began to work on the dining room. It's the worst room to do because our stairs and landing are all incorporated in it which makes it a major job. It's great for me though because as he has started I will get the whole lot done. I just keep supplying the coffee and biscuits. We had a sandwich for lunch and lasagna with fried tomatoes for dinner. I have to go to work tomorrow so I hope it's a better day.

Monday

Work again and the weather was nice. 200 bunches of Spring onions first with Andrew and then10 boxes of broard beans, 5 boxes of rhubarb and 10 boxes of turnips with Andy. By then it was 1.30 and I had to pick all the tomatoes( 6 boxes ) . That only left me half an hour to weed at the end of the day. We had a nice dinner of eggs , bacon, mushrooms, baked beans and bread and butter. 

Today our eldest Grandaughter and her boyfriend got the keys to their first house together, I am so proud of them, it's so hard for the young people today. 

No work for me tomorrow but with the forecast being so bad I don't suppose we will do anything much.
